Activities
Malviniemi Company creates dance performances and produces applied dance activities, projects, seminars and workshops. The dance company is a notable actor within the cultural field and the only professional dance company in Vaasa and the Ostrobothnian region. Annually we produce at least one new performance piece. The performances originate from Malviniemi’s ideas, and also sometimes out of the collaboration with composers. Throughout her career, the use of live music in dance pieces has been essential in Malviniemi’s choreographic work. The company has performed in dance festivals around Finland and also internationally.
Employer in the cultural sector
Annually Malviniemi Company employs dancers, musicians, lighting designers, sound designers, costume designers and producers in its productions. The productions are supported by the Ministry och Education and Culture, the Centre for Arts promotion Finland, The Regional Council of Ostrobothnia, the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, the City of Vaasa, The Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Foundation for the Advancement of Music and the Federation of Swedish Municipalities in Ostrobothnia for Education and Culture.
Collaborator
We collaborate with various organisations and individuals that can support and enhance the production of dance pieces and dance content of an artistically high quality. Some of our partners are: the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, City of Vaasa- Centre of Libraries and Culture, Stormossen Oy, Zonta ry., Centre for Arts Promotion – Ostrobothnian arts council and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.
Senior Citizens
Since 2016 we have been offering performances and creative dance activities aimed at the elderly. The Artist at home-activities offers creative dance sessions to the elderly in collaboration with the City of Vaasa Home care services. The dance sessions are aimed at, amongst others, those over 65 suffering from dementia and living at home. In addition to this, we produce content for the City of Vaasa Senior centre Alvar-services, which is a programme offered to the elderly through a video phone.
